Around the world in 80 days with Jules Verne

πŸŒΉI've just finished reading "Around the world..." and it's better than I remember it from my childhood.

🌹If you enjoyed Jules Verne's book, you'll definitely enjoy the 1989 TV series biradcasted on NBC with Pierce Brosnan as Phileas Fogg and Peter Ustinov as detective Fix.

🌹I believe this TV series is far superior to the 1956 movie starring David Niven. It's also an excellent introduction to Verne and the late 19th century for students.

🌹I used this series for my students of low secondary school both for the English and History classes. They absolutely loved it! Q

🌹We watched it for 3 weeks, we kept track of the characters'progress on a map and we also kept track of the various types of transportation the characters used. We also discussed the role of Britain as an Empire and the growing importance of the United States in the world.

Le ragazze di New York

What a great dual time story about Charlotte a young woman in the 1940s,whose dream is to work for an advertising agency in New York and Olivia also a young woman who works for an ad agency in 2018.

Before reading this story I had no idea the Subway Girls really existed. From the historical note at the end of the book, we learn that the contest took place on the NYC subway system for more than 30 years, from 1941 to 1976.The purpose was to highlight the importance of the Subway advertising and to give passengers something pleasant to look at during the rides.

It was such a wonderful novel for all of us who enjoy historical fiction. We can truly see that the writer Susie Schnall was able to create a believable story blending true events from the past and the present time.

I cannot recommend this book enough for the content, the writing style and the way the characters are presented.

Gods ok Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno GarcΓa

This is such a wonderfully written novel. From the beginning to end, the author manages to weave such a complex story of love, power, mythology, forgiveness and sacrifice.

Her writing is simple, straightforward and yet so lyrical. Silvia Moreno manages to transport us not only to the Mexican culture but to the time period as well.

I also loved the way she evoques a moving fairy tale about a simple girl and the Maya God of Death and how they both find each other in their humanity.

The author's vision of the 1920s Mexico and the Maya Underworld are so vivid and enchanting that they bring the story alive.

The culture and mythology of Yucatan come alive through her prose.

She has also managed to create such a wonderful balance between historical fiction and mythology. She thus portraits the women's fight against domestic violence, against discrimination as well.

I cannot recommend it enough to anyone.
